Oh man if you're going to plant a pawpaw there it would be much better to leave the tree until the pawpaw is at least 4-5 years old. They do best when initially grown in shade.
I think it was a great decision to take down that tree. Now you have more sun coming in for your food forest. Those cuttings look mighty healthy. Take care friend 🙂
You are not cutting down old growth forest. That tree is a weed at this point. Plus you planted so many more trees that give back. Plus I bet more then anything you will recycle it back to your garden.
I'll be planting a Pakistani Mulberry in 1-2 weeks too. Looking forward to having lots of good tasting fruit! Can't wait for the Goji Berry pruning video. I just planted five Phoenix Tear 2 year old roots in December. Should have a nice goji crop and plenty of cuttings this year.
Can't wait for your pawpaw tree! I too am planting them this year by seed. I've been eating them my whole life and they are one of my favorites for sure! They make perfect vanilla custard ice cream!
Good to see you cutting down some trees! Mulberry trees are so invasive…they provide lots of shade and horses love to eat the leaves but my mothers Mulberry tree has cost her thousands…the roots find their way into the sewer line that leads from the house to the street. Good luck with the Pakistani as it sounds like at least you will get some fruit out of the deal. Also nice work on the pine tree. I was waiting for it to hit the fence…. I have a pro come over for the big stuff on my property. Question: with your past experience in planting asparagus crowns how long does it typically take before you see them sprout?
Thank you for the continual inspiration. I love watching your videos! Your channel inspired me to plant 8 fruit trees last year, and I have 16 more ordered for this year. I also am going to add some ground cover, and annual vegetables in this year like your garden. Thank you, and keep inspiring us all!!!
I hope no chickens were harmed during this tree felling! ? Thanks for the tips about the strawberries. I haven't had much success with bare root, so I will try again! ?
we planted two paw paws last fall but it just say native so I don't know what kind it is. Also planted 50 strawberry plants and 8 blueberry plants last fall. So far this month we planted 6 different apple trees, 2 different apricots, a plumcot, 2 peach trees, 2 different plum trees. Just told hubby yesterday we need to get our potatoes planted soon. Just keep planting.
Your garden is looking good! As I have a wood heater, that tree looks like fire wood. I do use a small battery chainsaw as I can get further into our woods. I am not strong enough anymore to use a pull start chainsaw. at 74 I do still cut most of our wood.

Have you ever considered a star fruit tree in your design? I liked them growing up, but am not sure it'd fit in my area.

Dont cut that tree plz, it encrease a lot tje fertility to have old trees close. Have a look at HUGO experiment!
How long before the paw paws fruit?
How do you remove the stump?
Do you have a wood chipper? Would you make chips out of the tree?
